We have a large stock of vintage & antique bedsteads. We also make contemporary beds and mattresses to order.
VINTAGE: The following pages show a selection of styles & sizes. With two rarely being the same, those shown are examples of both our current & past stock. Some pictures show beds pre restoration & others are finished. Singles are a little more difficult to find & 5' beds rarer still, therefore the majority that we have (as they were the most commonly manufactured) are 4'0" and 4'6"s. The length of most beds is the standard 6'3" (190cms) and can be lengthened or shortened as desired.
Although originally mostly made in England, the majority of the stock is bought from Ireland, with a few hailing from France. The Irish models often come to us in extremely sad condition, having spent the past 50-70 years of their lives as fencing around farmers fields. The grander ones were often gates. Over the past 15 years, enterprising people from Ireland have travelled the length and breadth of the country persuading farmers to part with these old relics in return for re-fencing their fields with modern, new fences. Consequently, the majority of the beds we buy are rusty and damaged, which is where our restoration workshop comes in.
We sandblast, restore, polish or paint them, make new irons and slat them making them as good as new, whilst retaining their genuine character. A number of old bed suppliers chop up small beds and stretch them to make them wider. We don't do this. All of our beds are as original as possible. When restored, your bed would comprise a head, a foot, two side irons and a set of pine slats.
