During the latter years of the 1940s, aircraft manufacturers who had been making 'planes for the war effort, found themselves with a surfit of aluminium and nothing to do. They began to turn their hands to making furniture.
Dressers like this were one of the results. Made as a cheap alternative to wood, which was scarce, they were made to look like wooden pieces and would originally have been painted.
We have stripped this dresser of the remains of its paint and polished the aluminium underneath to achieve this fantastic lustre. The interior of the base contains 2 small drawers. The handles are the original bakelite and we have painted the interior blue. The top section unscrews from the base for ease of delivery.
